Rare first edition of Schrader’s extensive and final publication containing a collection of sermons delivered to his congregation in Tondern. The sermons are based on the Gospels read during regular Sunday services and Christian feast days throughout the liturgical year. Johann Hermann Schrader (1684-1737), born in Hamburg, studied theology at the University of Rostock before becoming a tutor in Copenhagen. He later served as senior pastor in Oldesloe and, in 1728, as provost in Tondern, where he was instrumental in establishing a chapel and an orphanage. A strong advocate of Pietism, Schrader was known for his passionate preaching and played a significant role in the Rendsburg synods.
