8vo. Bound in a green cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine and front cover. There is a stamp on the spine that continues onto the front cover. The author's name is in gold. The upper part of the spine is worn, as are all the corners. The inside of the book is clean and tidy, with the previous owner's name written in pencil on the first page.

In the novel by the Norwegian author Jonas Lie (1833-1908), he portrays a family on a farm in Valdres. "The Family at Gilje" is a major work in Norwegian literature. Since its publication, the novel's portrayal of people and their cultural history has been praised time and time again. The novel depicts the opportunities and lack of opportunities for women in official positions.
