Einstein was invited to give a lecture at the University of Nottingham by a lecturer there, Henry Brose, who also acted as interpreter. Einstein came with his wife Elsa on 6th June 1930. He was due to start the lecture at 3.45pm but did not arrive until 6.30 as he took a detour to visit the birth place of Isaac Newton. The blackboard on which he wrote was quickly varnished over when the lecture was over and is still preserved in the university. While in Nottingham Einstein commented on George Green's contribution to mathematics, saying that he had been 20 years ahead of his time.
