HOPKINSON, J. - IMPROVING ELECTRICAL RAILWAYS.

Residual Charge of the Leyden Jar. - Dialectric Properties of different Gases. Received November 30, 1876, - Read January 18, 1877.

(London, Harrison and Sons, 1878). 4to. No wrappers as extracted from "Philosophical Transactions" 1877 - Vol. 167. Pp. 599-626

Hopkinson’s application of Maxwell’s electromagnetic theories to the analysis of residual charge and displacement in electrostatic capacity led to his election as a fellow of the Royal Society in 1877. He favored coupling traction motors in series parallel, thereby providing electric railways with superior motive power.
