The present collection depicts the architecture and interior designs of Château de Malmaison situated in the French commune Rueil-Malmaison west of Paris.
In 1799 Joséphine de Beauharnais bought the house for herself and her husband General Napoléon Bonaparte, the future Napoléon I of France.
At the time the house was bought Napoléon Bonaparte was campaigning in Egypt and Joséphine de Beauharnais bought the house for expected money he would bring back. At first Napoléon was furious over the great sum spent on the castle but eventually Château de Malmaison would bring great happiness to the Bonapartes.
