4to. Bound in four beautiful very nice contemporary full calf bindings. Vol. 1 and 4 in sprinkled Cambridge-style mirror bindings and vol. 2 and 3 in sprinkled full calf bindings with gilt ruled fillets to boards. All edges gilt. Ex-libris (Juel to Valdemar's Castle) pasted on to pasted down front end-papers. A very nice and clean set in beautiful bindings. A very nice set of the first five volumes of The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences containing numerous important publications by the leading scientists and learned men of the age. 
The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters was established on 13 November 1742, with the wish of creating a “learned society”. Behind the establishment was Johan Ludvig Holstein (Count and titular Privy Councillor), Hans Gram (Counsellor, Royal Historiographer and Professor), Erik Pontoppidan (Professor of Theology) and Henrik Hielmstierne (Secretary of the Danish Chancellery), and the approbation for the establishment was given by King Christian the 6th of Denmark.
