Rare first edition of this account of a journey through Switzerland by the German aristocratic traveller Anna Helene von Krock who travelled with her daughter from Schaffhausen through Zürich and Bern to Geneva. The work takes the form of letters and combines observations of Swiss society with detailed descriptions of the landscape and Alpine scenery. Krock describes Bern, Thun, the Bernese Oberland, Lauterbrunnen, the Staubbach waterfall, Grindelwald and its glaciers, Lake Geneva, Lausanne, Vevey, Geneva and the surrounding mountains. A scarce and interisting work of eighteenth-century women's travel literature documenting the emergence of Switzerland as a major destination of the European Grand Tour and the development of the Romantic view of the Alps.
