First edition, offprint issue, being Moissan's largest stydy on his synthesization of diamonds.

"Moissan founded the study of high-temperature chemical reactions by his invention of the electric furnace and using itto fuse and purify many refractory oxides, silicides, carbides, and borides. He firs synthesized small diamonds (not of gem quality) by dissolving carbon in molten iron and then rapidly cooling it. Moissan's process was successfully repeated by Otto Ruff.... Using his electric furnace to reduce metallic oxides with carbon, Moissan prepared many metals, e.g. chromium, manganese, molybdenium, titanium, tungsten, uranium, vanadium, and zirconium" (Roy G. Neville in "Historical Chemical Library" II, p. 179 ff.).

Moissan received the Nobel prize in Chemistry in 1906 "in recognition of the great services rendered by him in his investigation nd isolation of the element fluorine, and for the adoption in the service of science of the electric furnace called after him".
