Exceedingly rare first edition of this seminal work, being the first substantial systematic account of the birds of Iceland.
Frederik Faber (1795–1828) travelled in Iceland from 1819 to 1821 making extensive observations of its natural history, and the present work represents the first publication of his ornithological investigations. It provides descriptions and observations on the Icelandic birds including the distribution, habits and behaviour of the species observed.

It was subsequently followed up by his ”Nachtrag zur isländischen Ornithologie” (1824) and followed by his more extensive ”Ueber das Leben der hochnordischen Vögel” (Leipzig, 1825–26).
