Kjøbenhavn, A. Goldin, 1816-1828. 8vo. 27 uniform volumes bound in contemporary cardboard bindings with red titel label with gilt lettering to spines. Four volumes with parts of spines missing. Otherwise a fine and clean set.


First printing of the first Danish encyclopedia, being a translation - but with numerous additions and alterations - of Brockhaus's third (and partly forth and fifth) edition of 'Lexicon'. It became immensely popular not only in Denmark but in Sweden and Norway as well and remained the most important and thorough encyclopedic reference work in Scandinavia untill the end of the 19th century.
