Folio (298 x 202 mm). In a later half calf binding with four raised bands. Wear to extremities. Previous owner's name and note in latin to front free end-paper. Stamp to front free end-paper and verso of title-page. Small worm-tracts throughout and light soiling to last leaevs. With numerous woodcut-initials throughout. (6), LXVIII, (1) ff. 


Later uncommon edition of Hegesippus' work on the ecclesiatical events from the beginning of the bible up til around 150 AD. His works are main sources next to the Bible for the history and antiquity of ancient Palestine. Hegesippus's, or pseudo-Hegesippus, real identity is unknown.

Over time, numerous hypotheses have been advanced on the identity of the author, the latest theories seem to agree on an attribution to the young Sant' Ambrogio
