First edition. The work describes and depicts the rare plants found in the Gardens of the Farnese family in Rome, scarce and exotic plants the seeds of which were brought to Rome by members of the Jesuit Order travelling abroad, and showing species not previous seen in Europe. Aldini was curator for the Gardens, but the work has rightly been attributed to Pietro Castelli, professor of botany in Rome and founder of the Botanical Gardens at Messina. The capital letters of the Preface reads "I Petrus Castelli wrote it all in Tobias Aldinu's Honour." - Hunt No. 208 - Nissen ZBI: 13 - Pritzel: 1590.
