First Czech translation of Darwin's landmark "Origin of Species" which predates the Latvian, Armenian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Romanian and Slovenian translations by several years.

The translator, František Klapálek (1863–1919) was a prominent entomologist, founding member and the first chairman of the Czech Entomological Society.
