8vo. In contemporary full calf with five raised bands and richly gilt spine. Small paper-label pasted on to top of spine. Wear and scratches to boards. Ex-libris (F. v. Iuel) pasted on to pasted down front end-paper. Internally nice and clean. (4), 300 pp. + frontispiece. 


The uncommon first edition of this work on Queen Christina of Sweden (1626 – 1689) who famously abdicated in 1654, converted to Catholicism and move to Rome.

The Swedish queen is remembered as one of the most erudite women of the 17th century, wanting Stockholm to become the "Athens of the North".
