Rare first edition of this religious treatise by Ziegenbalg which was written in 1706 on a ship named Sophia, as the German Protestant missionary journeyed to India to convert the natives. Under King Frederick IV of Denmark's patronage Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Plütschau became the first Protestant missionaries to India, arriving in Tranquebar on 9 July 1706. They established the Tranquebar Mission to spread Christianity among the locals. Ziegenbalg learned Tamil, founded a seminary, and translated the Bible into Tamil, setting up India's first printing press in 1715. He also established the first school for girls in 1707 and advocated for women's education and the abolition of the caste system. Ziegenbalg passed away in 1719 and was buried in the New Jerusalem Church, which he helped establish.
