First edition of Wagenseil’s educational course for a young prince who shows aversion to studying in which he is emphasizing a balance between intellectual work and practical training tailored to the student's nature and social role.

Johann Christoph Wagenseil (1633-1705) was a German scholar who studied in Stockholm, Greifswald, Rostock, and at the University of Altdorf. He earned a law doctorate from the University of Orleans in 1665 and later held professorships in history, civil law, and Oriental languages at Altdorf. Notably, he contributed to Hebrew studies and published anti-Christian Jewish texts. He served as the university librarian and held various academic leadership roles until his death in 1705.
