Rare first edition of Ludwig’s commentary on Samuel von Pufendorf’s ‘Einleitung zur Historie der Vornehmsten Reiche und Staaten’, a standard textbook for politically aspiring young aristocrats across Europe.

Johann Peter von Ludwig or Ludewig) (1668-1743), was a prominent German jurist and historian. He studied at the University of Wittenberg and became a professor at the University of Halle, where he also served as royal historian and archivist. In 1719, he was ennobled by Emperor Charles VI. He later became Chancellor of the University and founded Halle's first regular newspaper.
