Later German edition of Musitano's "De morbis mulierum tractatus" on Women’s diseases with a focus on gynaecology and venereal illnesses - Musitano's most famous and influential work. Musitano (1635 – 1714), is regarded as being one of the most important Italian physicians of the seventeenth century and his works were reissued several times and translated into both French and German. Musitano was both a priest and a physician which made him many enemies who, under the pretext of "indecency", tried to prevent him from practicing medicine. However, Pope Clement IX, acknowledging Musitano's merit, granted him permission to continue his medical practice.
