Third edition of Reimarus’ collection of essays on various aspects of natural religion, seeking to establish a rational basis for belief in God and moral principles. He argues against revealed religion, arguing that it relies on supernatural claims that cannot be verified through reason. Instead Reimarus advocates for a religion based on natural theology, grounded in the observation of the natural world and human reason. Hermann Samuel Reimarus (1694–1768) was a German philosopher, theologian and Orientalist. He studied at the universities of Jena and Wittenberg, specializing in Oriental languages, particularly Hebrew. After completing his education, Reimarus served as a school rector in Wismar before returning to his hometown as a professor of Oriental languages.
