Christian Friedrich Hunold (1680-1721), also known by his pseudonym Menantes, was a German poet. He was known for his satirical and humorous poetry, as well as his translations of French literature into German. Hunold's work often focused on social criticism and commentary on contemporary German society.

The present work is a fine example of Hunold's talent for blending humor with social commentary, which was characteristic of his writing style.
