4to. In contemporary full calf with five raised bandes and gilt ornamentation to spine. Wear to extremities, spine with repairs and most of gilting worn off. A few plates with tears with internally generally nice and clean. (12), 192, (16) pp. + frontispiece and 13 plates (out of 14); (24), 96, 294, (14) pp. + frontispiece and 9 plates (out of 10).


Conrad Mel was a reformed theologian who lived from 1666 to 1733. He served as a court preacher and professor in Königsberg before returning to his hometown of Bad Hersfeld in Hesse, Germany, in 1705. In Bad Hersfeld he held positions as a church inspector and later as the rector of the local Gymnasium. Mel was known for his pedagogical views, influenced by August Hermann Francke. His works was translated into several into several languages.
