First printing of the paper in which Violle records his method for keeping a liquefied gas sufficiently cool to remain in the liquid state, thus introducing the quiding principle of the thermos bottle.

"Using the fact that a vacuum does not transmit heat, Violle stores the liquid gas in glass containers with double walls separated by a vacuum and with silvering on the exterior wall to reduce radiant impact" (Parkinson "Breakthroughs 1882 C).
