First edition of a major work by Lockyer in which he presents his dissociation hypothesis and the evidence for it. (The theory states that the atoms of elements are groupings of smaller constituents, which he used to explain some simple facts of the spectra). Lockyer is also well known for his creation of the scientific journal "Nature" in 1869.
