Carl Otto (1795–1879) was Danish physician and prominent advocate of phrenology. Educated in Copenhagen, he studied in Paris, where he adopted the then controversial doctrine of phrenology.
Alongside his medical career and university teachings Carl Otto was deeply engaged in Freemasonry. After he retired he devoted himself to literary work, including autobiographical writings (including the present) and continued Masonic involvement.
