First edition of Constantin Frantz's important political and philosophical treatise in which he presents his theory of the state as a natural organism and lays the foundations for a federalist conception of political order. Rejecting both absolute centralism and revolutionary nationalism Frantz argues for an organic understanding of society and government -  ideas that would make him one of the most original conservative political thinkers of nineteenth-century Germany.
