ORE, ØYSTEIN.

Über die Reduzibilität von Algebraischen Gleichungen.

Kristiania, Jacob Dybwad, 1923. Royal8vo. In the original printed wrappers with authors presentation inscription to top of front wrapper: "Cand. real Lange-Nielsen / med hilsen / fra forf.". Wrappers detached from book-block, otherwise fine. 37, (1) pp.

First appearance - with the author's presentation inscription - of Ore's paper on the reducibility of algebraic equations.

Ore, Norwegian mathematician, is known for his work in ring theory, Galois connections, and most of all, graph theory. His early work was on algebraic number fields, how to decompose the ideal generated by a prime number into prime ideals. He then worked on noncommutative rings, proving his celebrated theorem on embedding a domain into a division ring. He then examined polynomial rings over skew fields, and attempted to extend his work on factorisation to non-commutative rings.
