Fritz-Otto Busch (1890–1971) served as a naval officer in the Imperial German Navy, later in the Reichsmarine and the Kriegsmarine, and subsequently worked as a translator and as a writer specializing in maritime and naval subjects. A committed National Socialist, he played an influential role in the Nazification of the German P.E.N. from 1933 onward. He also published under the pseudonyms Peter Cornelissen and Wilhelm Wolfslast.

Hitler’s private library comprised approximately 16,000 volumes, located in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin, in Munich, and at the Obersalzberg. Due to the war most of the volumes were destroyed and many survived only with considerable damage. 3,000 volumes were secured by the American army and transferred to the United States. Large parts of these were deaccessioned or sold in the 1950s. Today, about 1,200 volumes remain in the Library of Congress and in the Hoover Institution Library and Archives.
